If Teacups Could Talk; Sharing a cup of kindness with treasured Friends

Wonderul book!! Would recommend it to anyone, whether just a tea drinker or for those who enjoy tea parties as myself. For a little book it is filled with a tremendous amount of knowledge and the illustrations are all so beautiful, from cover to cover and everything between. Besides the delicious recipes for cookies,crumpets,tea sandwiches, cake and scones, Emilie even shares recipes for tea itself; Tangerine Special Tea containing Orange pekoe tea,sugar,cloves, cinnamon, and the tangerine slices. I loved it. Emilie doesn't stop there, she includes two recipes that make an acceptable substitute for English clotted cream, and explains the different teas; black, green, oolong and blends of teas from different areas. For example, I did not know that gunpowder tea is a green tea which is called "pearl tea" in China, or that Darjeeling is a rich tasting black tea from the mountains of India. There are side bars filled with caring tips for your china, silver,linens, and lace tablecloth, teatime collectibles,timetable for preparation and many others. Whether you are planning a traditional Victorian tea party or otherwise, this book is all you will ever need for a beautiful success. I will not purchase any more books on this subject, for I feel complete in the knowledge given by Emilie Barns. I only wish I had known of this treasure when it was first printed in 1994. If you are considering the purchase, do so, you will not be sorry, but rather cherish it for the rest of your days as I know I will.

Great first tea book or gift to a friend

Emphasizes the meaning of sharing/serving tea to enrich relationships
Lots of great basic information in only 72 pages
Tea menus and recipes, not a lot, but all tasty and not too difficult to make
A little tea history and types of teas, how to brew a pot of tea
How to set a traditional tea table (serving pieces and linens)
How to throw a tea party (very nice and traditional, but doable, with timetable for preparation)
Ideas for different kinds of tea parties
Practical, simple ways to care for linens, silver, china
I tend to over-research my projects, but if I had read this tea book first, I would have felt comfortable throwing my tea party without any other books. Having read many other books, though, now I am sure all I really needed to know is right here. Reading it is like hanging out with a warm, kind tea mentor.
