The Catholic Study Bible Ordered from Amazon - Like It Very Much!

We have the 1st edition and really like it very much! Because we like it so much, we ordered it as a gift for our granddaughter. When we ordered it, only the 2nd edition was available. We like it but really prefer the way the 1st edition looked of the two editions. On the 2nd edition the following were the changes: The cover was different, the size was a little smaller, there were index tabs already in the 2nd edition, and the way the print appeared on the page was a little different. We still like it but prefer the looks of the first edition. Both are very good though.

Best Catholic Study Bible...

This Catholic Study Bible is easily the best one available today. The sources and teaching materials are rich in but also descriptive in a way that holds your interest. Keeping to the Catholic standards for excellence, I am very glad to see how perfectly those standards have been maintained. The Bible arrived on time, in excellent condition. Very pleased with this seller and will purchase again.

Everything you'll ever want in a Catholic bible

I got this on a friend's recommendation, and I'm so glad I did. I have had various Catholic bibles over the years, and despite being an English teacher, I STILL was lost when it came to the Old Testament. Even with the New Testament, I read the gospels and letters and reflected on them but that was basically it. This Bible makes me feel like I've spent time with a few biblical scholars and then revisited all the books of the bible!
The best feature, to me, are the Reading Guides in the beginning of the bible. There is a RG for each book of the bible and they REALLY give you background information. I've had bibles that say something like "Attributed to ______ written around the time of _______" but that's not really helpful. This bible goes into detail about who we think wrote the book, why, what tone they use, etc. Because it's Catholic and not fundamentalist, it goes into detail about authorship questions and the symbolism (as opposed to literal truth) of different books--all while upholding the Church's reliance on the Bible as sacred.
I like the footnotes because they're not just a bunch of cross references that mean nothing to me. They actually explain what things mean! Even the Gospels, which I thought I knew pretty well, have taken on new meaning. I also learned background of the Gospels that I never knew.
This is an easy, unintimidating way to learn more about your faith and the Bible. The scholars who edited it aren't pretentious at all, but they are knowledgeable. I recommend this bible to any Catholic, of any age really (teens and up). It's a great resource and something I know I'll spend time on for years.
Bonus: The hardcover is very attractive and sturdy and the pages have those little finger indentations for easy flipping. They're also annotated so you can easily open to a certain book.
