A dichotomous reaction to this book

I had two reactions to this book: disgust and disbelief. I had a hard time buying into the very one dimensional upbringing of a young girl. No friends and no life experiences to make her a three dimensional person. Yet at the age of 19 she is handed the reigns to a multi billion do!lar conglomerate to run and grow. She rebels one day and ends up being almost raped and robbed yet to be rescued by a nameless man and ends up arrested for trespassing and that is the last she hears from him. She searches for three years for him in the system and finds nothing. She is Ill equipped to deal with anything outside of her business so when she meets Penn she has no skills to avoid him. He is crude, a liar and a criminal. He barges into her life that is controlled by men so she let's him take control until she I'd pretty much raped by him. He alienates her from everyone until she is vulnerable and alone. This was a train wreck that I couldn't put down . I wanted to close this book and write it off as another attempt at a dark romance that failed. But I found it to be a cautionary tale of how not to live. I would not want my daughter to think this is okay behavior and not glorify this as how love works. This was a totally dysfunctional story that is impossible to put down. Its painful to read. I kept saying "no!!!" at all of her actions and reactions. I felt so sorry for this poor girl and angry with the men in her life for using her for their own edification. I say read with caution it will bring lots of emotions out of you.

I adore Pepper's work, and Unseen Messages is one of my all time favourite vanillas. That said, this was really disappointing. The characters were one dimensional and completely unrealistic, and the storyline was just silly. I actually checked the home page of my kindle to check that this was a Pepper Winters book. Nothing felt like her. It picked up in the last 25%, so I read the second. But more on that in my next review......
