hand magic

Mudras: Yoga in your Hands by Gertrud Hirschi is a handy reference book for using Mudras. Unlike some other books we've seen where you tended to wonder what you were really seeing, the graphics and descriptions of the hand positions are very clear. Honestly, we got it hoping it would have more magical and mystical connections for the mudras, but alas, it has little of this, although with a little intuition and research one can surely make these connections. Rather, she has associated the mudras with yoga and healing and thus the book might be of interest to the practitioners of Reiki or Qigong or other healing modalities as a supplement to their practice.

Simple, concise and my on the altar go to book

First off, the 1 star ratings of this book have nothing to do with the book. Okay done with that. This little gem of a book is the perfect companion for understanding mudras. Yet, it is so much more than mudras. It starts off with explanations, touches on the music, color, chakras, acupressure and ayurveda; includes meditations and affirmations, there are about 52 mudras with a drawing, explanation of how to do it, it's meaning, what physical ailments t it may help to heal, a mini meditation and affirmation for each one. There is a section on mudra exercise, kinda like yoga and warm exercises you can do (which feel great) right before sitting down to your practice. It finishes up with a little info on the 5 elements wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
I had never heard of this author prior to purchasing the book. I'm so glad I read the reviews and followed my gut. I have learned so much.
My book has fallen apart, the glue dried up or wore out. Not sure what that is about. I think I may have to purchase another. :)

No well organized for Kindle

There is wonderful information. The organization at least for the Kindle is horrible. A Mudra use is described. The picture of how to do the Mudra is pages after. There is a number of positions on the same page so if one interests you, since its not a familiar name, by time I would find the pictures I couldn't remember which mudra I was looking for. It really is not user friendly. The cards are more user friendly but lack the in-depth information that the book has. If you are unfamiliar with the mudras buy the book and the cards.
