The notion of intentionality comes from the Middle Ages. What is less known is that Hervaeus Natalis, O.P. (d. 1323) was the first one explicitly to consider it as such. Even less known is the fact that he came to it not immediately from the Aristotelian De Anima, but rather from the division in Aristotle s Metaphysics between being as being and being as true. Hervaeus regards its significance as a relation of reason which runs in the direction of known or knowable to knower.

volumes, he has published six more volumes of
translation and has produced over 50 articles,
essays, and encyclopedia entries, all dealing with
figures and themes in medieval and post-medieval
philosophy.

Add this reference book to your library of Propeller programming guides, but don't qualify it as the "official guide"

An adequate reference from the development group and authors at Parallax, this book serves to enable proficient programming of the powerful,8-cog Propeller microcontroller chip. Don't expect too much theory-based material, as the reference book is meant to be more of a practical reference. Therein lies its weakness. More theory would have helped to clarify many of the cloudy topics presented. One example of this glaring oversight comes to mind. The Propeller is capable of analog-to-digital conversion via an onboard converter, yet the author fails to expound on the characteristic, and instead recommends an ancillary discrete device, the MCP3208, for analog-to-digital conversions. There is even a building block object for the MCP3208 to facilitate interfacing with the Propeller. Why? Is there a problem with the internal Propeller's ADC? I was led to believe so. On the other hand, the experimenter will find an abundance of practical examples that can be readily implemented. In summation, my goal was to learn Propeller programming, and I did, but I was forced to search other references in my endeavors to achieve that goal.

Programming and Customizing the Multicore Propeller Microcontroller

As a beginner to electronics with limited hobby level experience in programming computers, I am very impressed with "Programming and Customizing the Multicore Propeller Microcontroller." The book begins with a description of the multicore Propeller and an introduction to the Spin language used to program it. Debugging tools and practices are discussed followed by an overview of sensor basics with examples. Eight interesting projects fill the remainder of the book, with topics ranging from a balancing robot to an HVAC green house model. My favorite project is the chapter on wirelessly networking Propeller chips. In this chapter we are taken through the steps required to wirelessly network a robot with a compass and a PING))) ultrasonic sensor, an accelerometer/inclinometer, and a display. The communication is provided via XBee 802.15.4 modem/transceivers. The final result is a robot that can follow a heading, turn based on wireless input from an accelerometer board (steering wheel), and wirelessly transmit useful information back to the tv display, such as bearing, distance to objects, bar indicators for drives, and signal strength.

Anyone from beginner to advanced skill levels will find this book educational, interesting, and engaging.

Okay - I am a Hobbiest, but I do have some cool goals for this year using the propeller. The biggest problem I have is I really like practical examples. I bought this book thinking it would just be a good reference, and yes it does show you lots of practical things you can do with a Propeller. Fortunately for me, this is not a reference book after-all. You will find things for the absolute beginner, and all the way to the "Mad Scientists." I was surprized to see how I really wanted to read this book in a 'linear' form! This was not a book on tips and tricks. This is classroom material, with labs to be done! Fun, and crazy things to do at that. Looking for a better understanding of sensors - sure it's here, but that's just the surface. I realy like the way this book has been set-up with a backbone of understanding approach. You can skip ahead to see some really cool projects and the thinking process of how to do them, but you are doing yourself an injustice to skim the first parts. The Propeller is a different type of microcontroller and it has some way cool techniques to things so I appreciated the extra time put in this book for all the notes and extra care to really help explain all these crazy cool options.

Overall - I am very pleased with the book, and I wish this was the book I first was able to pick up when I started working on the Propeller. The forums are nice but this would have answered a ton of questions I had when I started. There are still lots of material in this book that is crazy cool and beyond my scope of projects and current understanding, but it's nice to know thats there when get to that level.

Andrea Ponsi is an architect, designer, and educator currently living and working in Florence. He is the author of Thinking Lines and Firenze: Changing Viewpoints, among other books, and his work has been the subject of exhibitions in Europe and the United States.

An appreciation of Florence

This is much more a prose ode to Florence than a guidebook, or even an architectural guide. Architect Ponsi clearly loves the city, and this short book records his impressions as he views his beloved city from various vantages.

The writing is lovely and sincere, but not filling. This is a book of emotions, not information. It's more like reading a long poem about Florence than reading a guide to Florence

I share a measure of his love of Florence, and can relate to much of the book from experience. I don't know how it would read to someone who has never been there. I could see it inciting a desire to visit in someone of romantic temperament.

I see this book appealing to two groups of people. First, to those who just can't read enough about Florence and, second, to romantic spirits who would enjoy following his footsteps and comparing their impressions to his. For many people this will be a short book that doesn't tell them anything practical.

This is a small book, but packed with information both for the new visitor to Florence, and those who are regulars. The information is presented in a very myopic way and makes you instantly aware of glorious surprises practically just under your nose as you wander the maze of streets in Florence. It certainly encourages and invites you to look beyond the obvious and let your eyes and hands make discoveries you might otherwise overlook or not even be consciously aware of.
I can't wait to get back to Florence!

Beatrix Potter loved the countryside and spent much of her childhood drawing and studying animals. The Tale of Peter Rabbit¸ published in 1902, was her first book, expanded from an illustrated letter she had sent to a young friend. Poor Printing Quality of Timeless

This review is regarding the poor printing quality of the books that are currently being sold.

Message to Amazon:I just ordered the presentation 23-box set and several individual books. The books are all printed in China. The quality of the printing is so poorly done that I am returning $200 worth of books. I am writing to ask if this is the new standard of publishing for Beatrix Potter books. I am working on a graduate paper and have purchased a large number of books written by Judy Taylor, Margaret Lane, and Leslie Linder--all experts in the work of Beatrix Potter. I purchased the complete set of books and individual ones so that I can compare the different editions with the original privately edition printed in 1901, the first Frederick Warne & Co. published edition in 1902, the centenary edition published in 2002, and the 110th edition published in 2012. There is a huge difference in the printing quality in paper texture and color quality with the recent new editions being sold by Amazon. The earlier new printings Amazon sold have an almost satin quality to them. The later ones have a rough almost grainy texture. The printing on all the recent editions appears as if they were printed on machines with low toner. The text and picture colors appear faded as if printed by amateurs. The quality is unbelievably poor!

Is there a quality control on these books? Is anyone checking to make sure that what is being sent to customers is a standard that you approve of? From all my research on Beatrix Potter, I understand she wanted to have the books printed as cheaply as possible to be able to reach as many children as possible, but 111 years later, we should expect a higher quality than what is being published opposed to even one year ago. Children and adults deserve a much better quality that is being produced at this time in China.

February 28, 1938, Beatrix Potter gave advice to Josephine and Delmar Banner regarding publication of their artwork. Rather than to have their work reproduced badly, she advised them to redesign the pages to allow for current publishing practices because, "Children deserve the best" (Letters 387).

Can you assure me that the quality of the books you sell are good quality and not these poorly printed editions?

Can someone follow-up with me to see what is being done about the poor quality of these books being sold on Amazon.com? Read the reviews and you will see this is a huge problem. I am a loyal Amazon customer. You can tell by my order history. You always stand behind the quality of your merchandise. I hope you will investigate and require answers from the vendors you are purchasing these books from. If this a problem with Penguin publishers in UK, they need to step up and implement a review of their quality control practices. I have also emailed Penguin Publishers in UK.

Great bargain for a fabulous collection of literature!

What a fabulous bargain! Our son and his wife requested that all their shower guests give a book for their son and sign the book with a note to him. This was to be used instead of buying a card and would provide him with a fabulous library of books to read and cherish for years to come. Since Peter Rabbit was one of my favorite stories I went looking and found this entire collection of Beatrix Potter stories about Peter Rabbit and more! I will have the chance to bond with him and share some of my very favorite children's stories all at once! The book is hard bound and comes on a protective hard sleeve as well. It will remain on the upper level of his book shelves for a few years, but then we will take it down on those special nights that I get to tuck him in and read him to sleep! What more could a Grammy ask for anyhow?

With Porsche and Audi he joined an exclusive club of three-time winners of the notoriously demanding 24 Hours of Le Mans, became FIA WEC World Champion with Audi, he has won three American Le Mans Series titles, and is the most successful British driver in America’s revered Sebring 12 Hour, with four wins. A former factory Audi driver in the FIA World Endurance Championship, Allan's commitments include being an Audi Ambassador, media duties for BBC F1 & BBC Radio 5 Live, FIA Formula One Driver Steward roles, and he is proud to be the President of the Scottish Motor Racing Club.

Tanner is a versatile and multi-talented driver known for his supreme car control and a proven track record of podium placements, national championships and world records. He is a three-time U.S. rallycross champion (2012, 2011, 2010) who has also won four X Games gold medals (2013, 2010, 2007), and two Formula Drift championships (2008, 2007). Off the track, Tanner demonstrates his impressive car control and driving experience on-camera as host for History Channel's Top Gear and performing stunts for various films, TV shows, and commercials.

Optimum reading

I have finished the book, Amazon just now allowed me to do a review. I gave it five stars because I can't give it six. Normally you read for entertainment, I bought this for entertainment. When I started reading it I seriously wish I had listened to Paul more when he lived here. This book is education , It takes studying. Reading chapters over and over to make sure they sink in. Paul you have done a great job with this. I can apply quite a bit of it to the motorcycle world where I am, "the mediocre teacher" but this book will make me better. At both riding and teaching.
Maybe driving too.

very in-depth and thoughtful guide, touching a side of performance and race car driving that isn't spoken about except by the top drivers in the sport in a way that allows the novice to the self reflective professional gain awareness and understanding of how to improve
